Treatments for excessive sweating at Oaks Hospital
There are several treatments available at the Oaks Hospital to
treat hyperhidrosis both as an inpatient and outpatient. Your
consultant will need to take a detailed history regarding the
problems you have been experiencing and will discuss the most
appropriate treatment option.
Treatments for Excessive Sweating
Treatments for hyperhidrosis range from medications to
outpatient treatments, such as Iontophoresis, through to keyhole day-case
surgery (thoracoscopic sympathectomy), depending on how extreme the
case.
Depending on the advice of your consultant, some treatments may
need repeating. Whilst the use of conservative and medical measures
is encouraged, many sufferers will have tried these via their
general practitioner. Hence surgical treatments may be required for
longer lasting therapy.
Immediate improvement is often experienced following surgical
treatment. Most patients can return to normal activities within a
few days after surgery and will feel the benefits of the associated
lifestyle improvements.
Patients regain their self-confidence and simple every day
activities that may have been previously avoided such as shaking
hands, wearing certain clothing or footwear and even public
speaking can improve greatly.
It may be necessary to see your consultant again following your
treatment for excessive sweating.
