NEW Breast imaging service at Oaks
Thursday 2 February 2017
A new breast imaging service has been launched at Oaks Hospital, following the installation of advanced digital mammography at the hospital. The new technology uses a low dose of radiation to produce high quality images.
60,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually with one in eight women developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Mammography is a useful tool that can detect small changes in the breast, at an early stage, before any symptoms are noticed, and when treatment success rates are highest. The new breast imaging service at Oaks offers convenient appointments, double-reporting by two Consultant Breast Radiologists and quick results. Onward referral to a rapid diagnosis breast clinic is also available should it be required.
Karen Pape, Radiology Manager at Oaks Hospital, said: “At Oaks, we support and encourage patients to attend their NHS breast screen but we can now offer annual screening for women in between times. We can also undertake mammograms on younger and older women from the age of 40 years and over 70 years.”
Oaks Hospital welcomes both insured patients and those choosing to pay for their own treatment for consultations, investigations and treatment in most specialties including orthopaedics, general surgery, women’s health, and men’s health. The reintroduction of mammography at Oaks Hospital demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to continuous investment and improvements both in terms of medical technology and also in patient care.
