Oaks Hospital North East Essex Medical Secretary Forum
Thursday 28th June 2018

30 medical secretaries from 17 practices attended Oaks Hospital to learn more on referring to Oaks Hospital.

The workshop's aim was to help Medical Secretaries with the processes on how to refer to Oaks Hospital with ease and efficiency.

Victoria Elliott (Choose and Book Manager) held a training session on eRS and gave hints and tips on the process and systems. As all North East Essex GP Practices have to use eRS and will be paper free from 1st October this was a very timely and informative session.

Gemma Frost (GP Liaison Officer)  held a live demonstration on how quick and easy it is to refer private patients via the Oaks Hospital online portal.

Miss Jo Reed (General Surgeon) did a short presentation on the difference between Upper & Lower GI and what referrals to send to which clinic. She demonstrated how a delay can impact on a patient if a referral is sent to the wrong clinic.

Mr Duncan McRae (ENT Consultant) discussed how closely related Upper GI and ENT are and helped secretaries understand the cut off between the two and eased any uncertainties.

The event was very successful with Medical Secretaries taking away a lot of useful hints and tips which will make the patient referral process as smooth and efficient as possible.

The event finished with strawberries and cream and the chance for the Medical Secretaries, Consultants and Oaks Hospital staff to network with each other.
