Staff at Oaks support Essex Air Ambulance
Thursday 9 February 2017
Essex Air Ambulance was delighted to be presented with a cheque at Oaks Hospital for funds raised by the staff Christmas raffle.
Essex Air Ambulance provides free life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Services for critically ill and injured people in Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. Deployed on average 2-3 times a day, the helicopter enables specialist doctors and critical care paramedics to quickly get to the scene of an incident with advanced life-saving support equipment normally only found in hospital Emergency Departments.
Once stabilised, patients can be transported by air or land to the most appropriate hospital for their needs. Each emergency flight costs £125 per hour just in fuel and so the funds raised by Oaks Hospital will be used to help keep the helicopters in the air.
Tina Thomas, a representative of Oaks' staff engagement group, said: "The Essex Air Ambulance relies totally on the support of local people and businesses to help run this important service which helps saves many lives every year. We were delighted to be able to make this donation and with many more fundraising initiatives and events planned we hope to be able to add to this donation and continue to support the charity throughout the year."
