Diagnosis of cancer

Thinking that you may have cancer is a very worrying time. Which is why at Oaks we aim to do things differently.
Fast appointments
Most patients will be referred to a hospital specialist by their GP to try and determine the cause of their symptoms including the possibility of cancer. If you are referred to a consultant with suspected cancer, we will ensure you are seen within 72 hours if not sooner. We aim to offer a One Stop Clinic, wherever possible, enabling you to have your consultation, tests and results on the same day.
Our rapid diagnosis clinics include:
- Bowel cancer
- Cancer of unknown origin
- Gynaecological cancers
- One-stop Breast Clinic
- Prostate cancer
- Skin cancer
On-the-spot tests
To avoid unnecessary delays during diagnosis, wherever possible, patients visiting our rapid access clinics can benefit from on-the-spot tests including:
- Blood testing
- Specialist radiology (x-rays, ultrasounds, MRI, CT scans)
- Tissue sampling
- Endoscopy
Rapid results
In most cases the result will be available on the day but occasionally further tests are needed to give a conclusive result. Your consultant will explain the results to you and, if necessary, discuss the options and recommend any further course of treatment needed.
Should you be found to have cancer, you will receive immediate support and early access to treatment.
