Cataract Surgery

Why wait to see the difference?

If your GP or optician has diagnosed a cataract, you don’t need to wait until your eyesight is really poor before you can consider surgery. We can help you get your sight back even if your vision is better than current NHS guidelines.

By opting for private healthcare at Oaks Hospital you can access treatment as soon as a cataract interferes with your life such as reading, watching TV or driving.

What is a cataract?

A cataract is formed when the natural lens within the eye becomes cloudy or opaque. It may cause blurred vision or change the focus of the eye, and may cause increasing difficulty with daily tasks.

What is cataract surgery?

A cataract can be removed by an operation where it is then replaced with a clear artificial lens implant. Your surgeon will discuss the most appropriate lens for you, with a wider choice than may be available on the NHS. Implants have been used for many years and are regarded as safe, stable and long lasting. Cataract surgery is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure enabling you to go home a few hours afterwards.

How quickly is sight restored?

Some improvement in vision should be apparent the day after surgery. Clarity will increase over a further period of time and most patients make a good recovery with improved vision.  If necessary, we can also operate on your second eye just a few weeks later to achieve the best vision, as soon as possible.

How much does it cost?

We offer a competitive fixed cost price for cataract surgery making it easy to pay for your own treatment.  Please see our price page or contact us on 01206 987669.  Alternatively, you can use any health insurance you may have to pay for treatment.
